Houston
– Seven-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Roger Clemens surprised a
father and son with an inside pitch with the help of TLC’s WHILE
YOU WERE OUT. Together with WHILE YOU WERE OUT host
Evan Farmer, designer John Bruce, and carpenters Andrew Dan-Jumbo, Jason Cameron
and Leslie Segrete, as well as social worker Jennifer Fuentes, Clemens –
through the generosity of The Roger Clemens Foundation and the television production
team – not only gave away a room design but an entire condominium for
the family.
The surprised father and son, Chris and Chad, is a most deserving recipient
of the home redesign and space. After Chad’s liver transplant in January
of 2003, and Chad’s mother passing away from breast cancer in December
of 2003, Chris was left a single parent, having to alter his job schedule to
spend more time home with Chad. After hearing this story and realizing how hard
it was for Chris to make ends meet, the Roger Clemens Foundation and WHILE
YOU WERE OUT decided to step in and help make life for Chris and Chad
a little bit easier. The foundation has generously bought the father and son
a new house rent free for several years!
Host Evan Farmer led the WHILE YOU WERE OUT team with designer
John Bruce and a team of three carpenters -- Andrew Dan-Jumbo, Jason Cameron
and Leslie Segrete – as they work with Roger to create the perfect home
for Chris and Chad. The episode of WHILE YOU WERE OUT is scheduled
to air on Wednesday, April 6 at 10 PM (ET/PT) on TLC.
“It was a team effort – we had a lot of fun preparing the condo
for Chris and Chad, and it was a great surprise for them.” Roger Clemens.
Putting all kinds of relationships to the test, WHILE YOU WERE OUT
takes viewers through a secret, two-day design project that leads to a dramatic
transformation and a surprising reveal. Here’s how it works: a homeowner
sneakily sends his or her partner, parent, or roommate out of town for a couple
of days, all the time filming them for the quiz portions of the show. Meanwhile,
the WHILE YOU WERE OUT team works around the clock to create
a dreamed-of space. Can they finish in time before the participants return from
their trip? All of which leads to the big surprise at the end of each show,
announcing, “Look what we’ve done…WHILE YOU WERE OUT!”
